Designed by Chandler, the famous architect and founder of the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, this Victorian gothic mansion was built in 1877 for the prominent Jenks family, owners of several Philadelphia factories. The Coachman's House

The Coachman’s House is part of a larger estate that was built in 1852 and renovated in the 1990s. Tucked away on top of a hill, the property is accessed by a long, winding drive through a park-like 3+ acre oasis in historic Germantown. The current owner recently renovated the two story cottage that once served as the coachman’s home and is adjacent to the former stables.
This suite has its’ own entrance and is tastefully decorated in earth tones. The first floor has a mini kitchen and dining area with a work space nook. Climb the stairs to the second floor which has a queen-size bed and private bath. Looking out the bedroom window, you will feel as if you are in a tree-house. The windows let in lots of light while the many trees provide privacy.
Your hostess currently works in administration in a local school. However, she puts her talents as a former bakery owner to work when stocking the kitchen with breakfast items. For stays of less than a week breakfast items are stocked in the kitchen for guests to help themselves to each morning. In warm weather guests may enjoy their breakfast in the lush garden.
Located just 15 minutes from Center City, the Coachman’s House is convenient for visitors who want to be close to the city and yet have a quiet, bucolic place to stay.
